Refreshing During the COVID-19 Pandemic

The members of the Wilderness Medicine Education Consortium (WMA, NOLS, SOLO, Aerie, DMM, WMTC) have all met to discuss the challenge that course cancellation places on those holding certifications that may expire while programs are suspended. We are all extending certifications, the exact parameters of those extensions vary by the school (contact your program for details) but none of us will abandon our students during this COVID19 crisis. As well, all of us are working on online continuing education for those who wish to keep their knowledge current.

Aerie has changed its two-day, in-person WFR recertification courses into one-day, online recertification courses. These recerts will provide students with the information provided during the didactic and skill-demonstration portions of the typical refresher course, and will update them with vital changes and trends that have occurred during the last two years, including changes to the management of cardiac arrest, hypothermia, general trauma, anaphylaxis and heat illness. These certifications will be good for one year from date of issue. Aerie will also continue to recognize the extensions of any wilderness medicine training organization in the WMEC.

Your Options

If you have already paid in full (the regular WFR-R / CPR pricing) for your upcoming WFR-Refresher (and/or optional CPR):

  • Option 1: Take the one day online WFR-R course on the day your originally planned. That certification will be valid for one year. Next year when you are up for recertification, Aerie will enroll you into a regular two-day WFR-R course at no additional cost.
  • Option 2: Take the one day online WFR-R course on the day your originally planned but request half of your course payment back. The one day WFR-R certification will be valid for one year. Next year, when you need to recert your WFR, you can register for the regular WFR-R course at its normal tuition rate.
  • Option 3: Transfer your course payment to a future regular two-day WFR-R course (current dates are unknown; we have no projection on future availability). Your payment will be held for two years and can be applied to any future offering Aerie has.
  • Option 4: Opt to remove yourself from any future course, online or in-person, and let your certification lapse.

Please contact our office for more information or to proceed with one of the above options!

If you are considering or about to register for an upcoming WFR-Refresher (and/or optional CPR):

  • Option 1: You can register and pay full price for the one-day online WFR-R course. Your certification will be valid for one year and the next traditional two-day WFR-R course you take will be at no additional cost to you.
  • Option 1: You can register for any of our upcoming one-day online WFR-R courses. The certification will be valid for one year. The cost of this course is half the regular cost of a WFR-R course.
  • Option 3: You can wait to register for your WFR-R course (either online or in-person). Aerie can not provide an expected timeline of when operations will return to normal. Please keep in mind, this may mean your certification might lapse.

Please contact our office for more information or to proceed with one of the above options!

CPR Class

Aerie will offer a CPR course, online, that will be valid for one year. This course cost will be half of the regular price.

We appreciate your understanding during these unique and challenging times.
